Indo Board Balance Trainer

In October Indo Board was featured in a clinical study overseen by Dr. Gretchen Oliver and Dr. Ro DiBrezzo of the University of Arkansas that was published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research (Volume 23 | Number 7 | October 2009). The purpose of the study, entitled Functional Balance Training In Collegiate Women Athletes, was to develop a functional balance training program on an Indo Board and examine its effects on strength and conditioning throughout the course of a Division-I college volleyball team's season.

The study concluded: By training on an unstable surface, the individual is conditioning the core while simultaneously performing balance activities, therefore training functionally on an unstable surface is a paramount addition to any form of basic strength training.

Health and Fitness has become our focus and in early 2010 we will begin offering Indo Board Workshops to fitness professionals interested in learning more about how to implement Indo Board products into training programs geared to Functional Balance Training, Instability Resistance Training, Postural Activation and Injury Prevention. Our intention is to have these workshops offered throughout the U.S. and for all attendees to be able to earn valuable Continuing Education Credits (CEC's). Stay tuned for further announcements on when and where these workshops will take place.

The latest School P.E. news, Indo Board was once again present at the annual FAHPERD show (Florida Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and Sport) in Orlando. Unfortunately the funding for P.E. departments in Florida schools has been drastically cut and the show was slow with many attendees having to pay their own expenses to attend the conference. This is a sad state of affairs for the health and fitness of today’s students. Please support Physical Education in schools!

Indo Board is proud to announce the November 1st launch of our new sponsorship program on Loop'd Network. This program is designed to assist top athletes in a variety of sports by giving them access to the finest balance training products available. For more about our sponsorship program visit the Indo Board page on Loop'd Network.

In wakesports news Indo Board was proud to be involved as a sponsor of the 2009 Wake The Lake wakeboard event in Lake Norman, North Carolina. Wake The Lake is part of the popular Atlas Lake Series of wakeboard/wakeskate events.

Down in Florida, Indo Board was also stoked to be a part of the Slider Spectacular event held at the Orlando Watersports Complex (OWC). The event featured an Indo Board Best Trick Contest and congratulations go out to Tyler Jackson for winning the contest by pulling off a perfect Indo Board kickflip.

Finally, this month's Letter of the Month comes from Griffin Gatenby, fan elementary school teacher in the Chicago area.

Hunter,
I just wanted to let you know that we received 15 Indo Boards at the end of last school year. I started this school year with a two week unit introducing the boards to my 3rd-5th grade students. They fell in love with them and progressed to the roller in only two class sessions. We are using the Indo Board and the IndoFLO cushion during almost all P.E. classes for the students that are waiting to rotate into games and we are using both the roller and cushion during our CrossFit circuits. One of my 2nd grade teachers is experimenting with the Indo Board and the cushion in her room. Her students are able to stand on them to read and they say they feel more awake and engaged. Many of my students want one of their own; maybe a good Christmas present! Thanks for all that you do. I will keep you informed on the progress of how we are using them.

Yours in health

Product of the Month

This month we are featuring the IndoFLO® Balance Cushion.

Anyone that owns an Indo Original deck and roller needs to have an IndoFLO® cushion to complete the training package. While it may appear this will not be as challenging as the roller, the opposite is true: it is more difficult! The amount of instability that the IndoFLO® cushion creates is mind-blowing as the board now moves in a full 360° of instability.

This adds the heel to toe movement that more closely simulates the rail to rail or edge to edge movements of a surfboard or snowboard. The IndoFLO® cushion provides a significant challenge for anyone looking to improve their balance while gaining core strength; it has no learning curve, so anyone can use it right out of the box!

If you own an Indo Original and you do not have an IndoFLO® cushion, do yourself a favor and get one. We guarantee it will open your balance training up to all kinds of new possibilities.

Workout of the Month

This month's workout is provided by Skye Nacel of Mocean365. Skye is a personal trainer that has uses the Indo Board extensively with his clients.

Begin as always with some light cardiovascular and then a dynamic warmup . Here is an example of a very thorough but quick <>dynamic warmup thanks to "California Fitness Academy". After your dynamic warmup, grab your Indo Board and warmup for about 1 minute on the Indo Board. Once you are fully warmed up there are 5 exercises we will use in this workout.

Exercise 1 : Indo Board Squats - for 20 seconds do as many squats as possible then recover for 10 seconds on board (repeat 5 times).

Exercise 2 : Indo Plank/Pushups - Hands on Indo Board in pushup position, hold in plank position with arms straight for 30 seconds total with a full pushup at 15 seconds and 30 seconds (two pushups total). Recover in "Child Pose" (resting on knees/shins) for 30 seconds then repeat (repeat 3 times).

Exercise 3 : Squat on floor/ground with front raise using Indo Board in hands as resistance. - Squat while holding the Indo Board deck at eye level, straight out in front of you. Do as many squats as possible for 20 seconds straight then recover for 10 seconds (repeat 5 times).

Exercise 4 : Plank position with feet on Indo Board - The same as Exercise 2 but hands are on floor/ground and feet are on Indo Board deck. - Maintain plank position for 30 seconds with full pushup at 15 seconds and 30 seconds (two total pushups). Recover in "Child Pose" (with feet off of deck) for 30 seconds (repeat 3 times). on board .

Exercise 5 : Indo Static Hold -

Position 1 - Start in a strong athletic ready position (knees bent about 6 inches down with head and shoulders up and abs flexed) hold position and concentrate on isolating the board's movement by keeping the roller in the middle of the deck with little or no side to side action. Maintain this position for 30 seconds to 1 minute (eventually working up to 2 min straight).

Position 2 - Lock your knees out* and concentrate on isolating the boards movement by keeping the roller in the middle of the deck with little or no side to side action. Maintain this position for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Repeat 3 times

* this is one of the only times you will ever "lock out a joint". Make sure to breathe throughout movement with control. This position really forces you to focus on utilizing your hips.

Warm down - Static muscle lengthening/stretching of all major muscle groups holding for 30-45 seconds.
