Welcome to the latest edition of the Indo Board Newsletter. Huge congratulations goes out to Mallory Turner (a.k.a. " Awesome Indo Board Girl") who recently experienced a major winning streak by capturing the Women's Longboard Champion and finishing Runner-Up in Women's Shortboard events at the 2009 USA Surfing National Championships at the Huntington Beach Peir in late August. Mallory then turned around and defended her 2008 title of Women's Shortboard Champion and Runner-Up in Women's Longboard at the 2009 Eastern Surfing Championships in Hatteras, North Carolina in late September. Mallory works, goes to school full time and uses the Indo Board to supplement her water time with proven results.
On the other side of the country, in a completely different sport, Indo Board rider and rookie pro motocross phenom Justin Barcia scored his first pro win ever at the final event of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series in Southwick, Massachusetts. Justin's relentless, hard-charging style earned him a fifth place overall in the final 2009 AMA points standings and the honor of 2009 Rookie of the Year (250 Class). Congratulations also go out to Indo Riders Brett Metcalfe who finished 3rd overall in the 2009 point series and Blake Wharton who finished 8th overall. All three riders are members of the prestigious Geico Powersports Honda race team with whom Indo Board is proud to be associated.
Indo Board is proud to welcome the Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad, California to the growing list of schools that have implemented the Indo Board School Curriculum and Lesson Plan into their Physical Education programs. The Indo Board curriculum is based on the principles of "New P.E."; a concept that incorporates fun, lifestyle fitness activities into a class structure. Adding innovative new programs such as the Indo Board into the P.E. class structure insures that students get exposed to non-traditional activities that they enjoy participating in, thereby developing a passion for a lifetime of fitness and health.
On the International front, IndoEurope continues their success in the Health and Fitness industry with the launch of IndoFitness. On September 23, 2009 IndoEurope Director Adriano Roldan and Master Trainer Jase Fern launched the new concept at Leisure Industry Week in Birmingham, England. Jase gave a demonstration highlighting the many applications of the Indo Board as a serious workout tool to an enthusiastic crowd. The very successful day was complimented by Master Trainer Kevin Hubble appearing at the same time on the popular "This Morning" program on ITV, the biggest commercial television network in the UK. Indofitness.co.uk will concentrate on three separate areas: IndoActive which will continue to introduce indoboarding to schools thus teaching students the benefit of developing balance skills as well as challenging them in many other ways, both physical cognitively. IndoFitness will be taking indoboarding to fitness clubs and gyms for group sessions and coming shortly, will be offering accredited certification to fitness instructors and personal trainers. IndoEvents will cover a range of events from corporate training days and team-building seminars all the way through to private functions and children's parties.
Finally, this month's Letter of the Month comes from Coach Jim Massaro founder of Advanced Body Personal & Athletic Training Center in Nyack, New York, nationally known fitness expert, strength and conditioning coach, trainer, public speaker and educator. "I use the Indo Board with my athletes to create balance and teach them how to control and drop through their hips. As they become more competent on the board I will add in squats, and squats to press with dumbbell or bar depending on their level. Med Balls are used in which I take them through a whole range of motion from chops to throws to catches. Other mediums I like to add in are Clubbell and Kettlebell movements. But I feel my best results come as I have the athlete on the Indo Board doing his or her sport-specific movements. For instance, I will have throwers such as quarterbacks, pitchers, lacrosse players on the board throwing me the ball. Those position players who catch the ball are on the board receiving passes or a lacrosse ball being thrown at them. My main reason for this is not only the balance work but to also create chaos in the athletes mind and central nervous system. On the field of play anything can happen at anytime, so I have found that this training can cue their bodies to be ready for anything. As I stated before, the Indo Board is a great training tool-just have fun and be creative.".
